Day
1
A perfect shire
To
understand the world properly we have to look back to the creation
of the world and see how God made a beautiful world he was pleased
with. We are made in his image with the same creative ability.
We
also considered the creativity of Tolkien and the film makers
of the Lord of the Rings and how they, like God, delight in the
detail and beauty of creation.

Day
2
Smeagol becomes Gollum
To
develop our understanding of the world we need to look at the
way humans have failed to live up to the standard that God sets.
Rather
like the graphic image of being violently sick the smell of sin
in God's nostrils is equally unpleasant. God finds sin offensive.

Day
3
Gandalf's sacrifice in Moria
To
see how God dealt with the issue of human sinfulness we look to
the death of Jesus as the point at which all the sins and failings
that are part of our life are dealt with once and for all.
We
considered how much God loves us when we see how painful was the
death of Jesus; a death that changed our lives

Day
4
Gandalf the Grey becomes Gandalf the white
To
see how the completion of God's act of love took place we looked
to the resurrection of Jesus as an historic fact.
Jesus
resurrection is the starting point for our new life as Christians

Day
5
Sam advises Frodo
To
help us in our lives as Christians God gives us his Holy Spirit
as adviser and bringer of help and power.
The
Holy Spirit is the means by which we can live the life that God
wants us to live. We have to ask the Holy Spirit for help. He
will never force his way into our lives unbidden but waits for
us to ask him for help.

Day
6
Frodo's mission
To
walk the Christian way means facing up to the daily struggle of
choosing the right path from the wrong.
We
find ourselves being tempted in every area of our life and it
is through the fruit of the Spirit that we find the strength to
overcome these challenges.
